Diving in Maui, Hawaii

To the OP, if you are staying in Kihei, that's perfect, most of the boats go out of Kihei. Ed Robinson, Mike Severns and B&B are all excellent. You have to try boat diving at least once so you can get out to Molokini.

Also try shore diving, use a guide for your first few shore dives, as others have mentionned.

If you have time, you can also try Lahaina divers out in West Maui. It's a bit of a drive, but offers some stuff different from South Maui.

Kapalua Bay has no i.e. Kapalua Bay is Kapalua Bay. There are some who call one of the small bays south of Napili Bay "turtle bay." There is only one "Turtle Bay" in Hawaii, on Oahu's North Shore.



So the MDS instructor who called Kapalua Bay turtle bay told you where to illegally park and get off with just a warning, and you really appreciate that. I find instructors like that only slightly more offensive than tourists like you. :mooner:

My bad...the MDS instructor didn't call it Turtle Bay. I made the association because we did a boat dive, and I thought they called the site Turtle bay. Which was the same place we did our shore dive. So, I applied some tourist logic and made the association.

To the OP, I'd really suggest since you're staying in Kihei that you book your boat dives with B&B and shore dive with Shaka Doug or Maui Dreams.

The reason I'll strongly suggest you hire a guide for shore diving is that they know exactly where to go, how to enter the water (which can be tricky), what to look for, they'll tow the flag (which is required by law), and you'll see at least 10x more creatures than you'd spot on your own.

B&B is arguably THE most recommended boat operator on this board for beginning or newer divers. They'll take great care of you and help you be comfortable.
