I'm a Fish!
I'm going to be in Gulfport, MS the first week in May. Does anybody know of a good shop to dive with there? I'm only going to have one day to dive, May 6. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Gary is right. You can dive out of Dauphin Island, but there are no charter ops there. The closer you are to the Mississippi River, the crappier the water will be, and the further out into the Gulf you will have to travel for clean water.

Unless you're looking to dive or spearfish oil rigs, and go out at least 15 miles due to the murk, the other two posts are right- Alabama is your best bet. I have a friend that spearfishes in Gulfport and have been out to the oil rigs there about six times now and it's a lot of fun, but very different.

Like everyone has said, there is no diving in the Gulfport area, unless you hop a boat out to one of the rigs or small wrecks outside the barrier islands. No one I know of has a regular dive charter out of this area, just private boats. I dove Gulfport Harbor one time for a job. I DO NOT recommend it. Zero vis and who knows what was in that water with me.

The are three local shops:
Sports Unlimited in Gulfport Sports Unlimited
The Dive Shop in D'Iberville The Dive Shop, LLC
Round Island Divers in Pascagoula Round Island

Thanks for the info. Looks like we will be taking a drive which is no problem! Although who is going to go out on a thursday besides us?
