Someone else suggested snorkeling instead of diving at Stingray City.
That seems like a great idea, given your timetable and desire to interact with the stingrays.

It's an option to think about, but a huge majority of divers on this forum says it's definitely recommended to dive in Stingray City.

Hi,

I'm traveling to Grand Cayman this morning.

I really look forward to diving in Grand Cayman and Little Cayman. I will let you know about my opinion on the dive trips in both islands.

ahhh found this thread a little late - I gather u are on the island as i type this! Maybe you have access to a comp and will see this in an email.

I actually live on GC - heading back there from snowy ohio in a few days :D - I know my favorite dive sites are northwall and eagle ray pass, stingray that you have planned is fantastic as well. If you are there next monday (not sure how long u are staying) you can do a shoredive at macabuca in west bay (just tell the bus driver to drop you at turtle farm) and they have a fantastic all you can eat Jerk BBQ afterwards starting at 5PMish on mondays.

I know its outside of the scope of diving - but good restaurants to hit are: Casanova's in georgetown, lobster pot, the wharf, and fidel murphy's pub on west bay has the best chicken curry on the island.

Enjoy GC - and please post about the dives at LC, even tho Ive spent about a year on GC ive never been to LC or cayman brac, and we are gonna do dives there this spring, so any reviews would be awesome.

safe travels

Coming next week to Little Cayman. Is 3mm full suit fine for all dives? Should I even bring my 3mm shorty?

Water has been a bit cool here in Grand Cayman... about 75F. I assume LC is about the same.

If you are doing multiple dives each day for several days then a 3mm suit may not be enough right now.

LC was chilly last weekend. You might need a bit more than a 3 mm.

This site Dive Cayman - a scuba diving, snorkelling Caribbean vacation paradise shows a current water temp of 79 degrees. I'm guessing that is probably surface temp. I wonder where they record it and if it is accurate as it differs from the recent postings here.
We are heading to GC at end of month (Sunset House) from Boston and are putting our request in for warmer water but just getting out of this snow will be good enough! :yeahbaby:

I'm at LC right now and the water temp is 79.

I am wearing a full 3mm suit and have gotten a bit chilly towards the end of the second dive.

Tailspin, are you cold natured? I dont have a 5mm and I think my shorty over my 3mm would cut off my circulation. haha

I'm from northern Wisconsin and do a lot of cold water diving in a 7mm (and even 3mm at times) with no issues.

I think what happened this week is I have lost some weight recently and my 3mm is fitting kinda loose so water which would normally stay trapped in the suit is flushing through easier ... that flow of new water is eventually cooling me off at the end of the dives.

If you have a good fitting 3mm full suit you should be fine,

BTW weather was great this week, and seas were very calm.

Have fun!!
