I try and dive in every country I visit but will have to come back and dive Bahrain as they are suffering from hurricanes and a sandstorm blew me out today. Like Dubai, they are also doing a lot of land reclamation and this my affect viz.
Note that Aquitaine or Pearl Divers closed shop here earlier this year so there is no longer anyone ofering the PADI Pearl Diver speciality and diving in the Hawar Islands--snorkelling is still possible.
Bahrain Yacht Club is the only place I found now offering diving in Bahrain. They have a variety of sites they go to, mostly wrecks in about 10-12 metres, plus two coral reef sites--which are 45 -52 miles from the BYC, whereas most other sies are about 7 miles out. They also sometimes visit the Pearl Beds which are 8-25 miles out.
They rent gear and non members pay BD 15-30 for these trips. If you need to hire equipment it is BD 10 per person this includes tanks and weights (ie. no discount for using your own dive gear).
They respond promptly to e-mails and will send you a list of sites and all information. Contact: Daniel Chamberlain, Watersports Manager, Tel. +973-1770-0677. E-mail: bahyc@batelco.com.bh.
Please post about your experiences diving in Bahrain and with BYC! Thanks.
