Hey guys, greetings from Colorado! My parents live in Michigan, and are bugging me to come visit in April (around the 20th). Is there any diving like around Port Huron going on in that time frame? They live in Farmington Hills, so that I think would be the closest wreck diving spot to hit. I am dry suit certified, so that's not an issue. If not, I'll just have to do another trip out during the summer. It would just be me, so would need to dive with a group, or a boat group, or something. :)

I am not sure anyone is diving the wrecks out on Lake Huron in April. I could be wrong, Check the Rec and Tec link listed about or contact Rick at Bruno's to see if they are doing any wreck diving that early.

Monroe Quarry is open all year round. We will all be in the water down there around the time you are in town. It is about an hour from Farmington Hills.

Gilboa is still the best quarry in the area. It is about 2.5 to 3 hours away from where you will be staying. It is worth the visit, especially that time of year.

We won't be putting the Great Lakes Diver in until the beginning of May. Ourselves (Bruno's) and I believe Rec n Tec will be checking moorings etc for a week or so prior to the first weekend of diving, scheduled for 17th and 18th of May.

You could check with Four Fathoms but I suspect you'll hear similar from them too.

Give us a call when you come into town though as we may be doing river dives. Rick A is planning weekly river diving sessions (probably Wednesdays)... 586 792 2040

April is still pretty early here, we've been known to still get snow in April, granted its pretty rare (other than opening day for the Detroit Tigers). If you do come the dry suit is a good idea, Gilboa is generally around 43-45 at that time of the year. Make sure if you do that you have sealed regs, free flows are pretty common, particularly going deep.

White Star will be open April 1st. I know that a lot of divers dive the st claire river that time of year but the water is super cold and you really need to know someone familiar with the area to enjoy yourself. I would invite you to join us off of Harsens Island for a dive since that time of year we are all about it, but the weekend before the 20th we have a sold out trip running to the Cooper River in South Carolina and the weekend of the 20th (the 19th) is the Ford Seahorses shipwreck festival in Livonia... near where you will be... and the weekend after that is the M&G and Scubafest in Wilmington... whew... can't wait til april myself.

Folks from Sea-Side Dive Shop in St. Clair Shores dive the St. Clair River every Sunday morning at 11 am. I am almost one hundred percent sure there will be divers in the water when you are in town. I also know, since I will probably be in the water, that you are welcome to join us. If you are uncomfortable with the current, the limited viz, or the idea of diving solo, you can always buddy up with someone, just ask. We find a lot of artifacts on these dives and in April some of the fish should be moving back out of the middle of the river. You can contact Sea Side at 586/772-7676 or go to seasidediveshop.com. We will also be diving at Monroe quarry during that time frame. And I think Rick at Bruno's has scheduled dives for the quarry at that time.

Do you have a dry suit or do you need to rent a suit? If so what is your size? Start setting that up now so that you do not have to worry about it.

Oh, I have never been to Whitestar Quarry. I truly appreciate that Divers Inc. is very vocal and helpful in this forum. Because of that I will make sure that I get down there for a dive and next time I am in the AA area I will stop in to check out there store. I just need to figure out how the heck to navigate getting south from the Pointes on 75 for the next 2 years.

I would wait till later in the spring May or june when the boats are running. Rec and Tec starts running in may. April is early to be on the lakes. You could dive the quarrys like the others said but if you want wreck wait till may and book a charter. just my 2 pennys worth,
