Lake Huron Lake Sturgeon Working Group (LWLSWG) will be deploying daily six (6), six hundred (600) foot long lines each equipped with fifty (50) razor-sharp barbed and baited hooks in US & Canadian waters within a 3 km radius of the Blue Water Bridges between ~May 29 and ~Jun 14, 2019 (possibly longer).
The hooks are large (size 9/0) hooks, and are spaced 10' apart and depths of these longlines will range from approx. 30' to approx 60'.
LHLSWG uses these longlines to capture, measure, tag, and milk sturgeon in an effort to restore at-risk sturgeon populations in Lake Huron.
Although these hooks are only clipped onto the mother-line and have a fishing twine leader that can be cut with a dive knife, dive shears, or side cutters, they still pose a significant risk of entanglement, injury, or death to scuba divers.
