Heading to Sulawesi in a couple of weeks and the Agrressor paperwork says we can have gloves but the finger tips must be removed. Why is this? I remember reading something about touching gloved hands on coral and this was not a good thing, or is it to keep one from touching the marine life.

Thanks for the insight.

my guess is that they don't want you touching things, and figure if you have
exposed fingers you won't

just a guess

and yes, touching coral or other marine life is not a good idea unless you
really know what you are doing, and 90% of divers don't really know what
we're doing, so .... i just dont' touch =)

Sound like it should protect you from growth on the anchor lines and still discourage touching stuff that may be damaged.

They'll probably consider you need protection for your palms for gripping shot lines etc. but you won't be needing protection for finger tips.

Have done a fair amount of warm water diving and unless you dive very heavy currents why wear gloves at all?

Yes, it's to discourage you from touching things but still lets you push off in an emergency (thrown against rocks etc in surge) or hold on to shot or anchor lines which may have fishing hooks or marine growth.
I have a pair of sailing gloves. These have no finger tips, a tough palm and a neoprene back and they cost me only 15% of what my diving gloves cost.
