Diving equipment in Thailand?

I need to replace and buy some new equipment this April and was wondering if anyone knew the best place to go in Bangkok or Phuket.

I know Dive supply is pretty good in Patong as I've been there before. Any other places with good prices and big selection anyone would reccomend?

Im also looking to buy a Sunto, anyone know of a good place to look for one?

I've been to Dive Supply in Patong, I was looking for a new computer at the time.

Prices are definitely much higher than what you get in Europe or through Leisure Pro.

most of the shops I saw in Thailand were more like travel agents....

One for Bangkok I liked was Larry's - complete with bar/restaurant.

Dive Supply is great if you live here and can't get it elsewhere, and they are the Thailand Suunto dealer. Prices are (according to customers) higher than some European countries, cheaper than others (esp. Sweden, Norway).

Equipment such as masks, fins, wet suits are pretty cheap here, but some of the regs and BCDs are expensive (depends what you want really).

Prices on dive gear in Phuket are higher than in Japan. I try to go via Singapore where you can buy the Suunto Mosquito for USD 225 (i think). It was USD 450 in Phuket.

So you guys think i should shop on the web? Any recomendations as to which on-line store to shop from with decent prices?

I realize most of you live in Asia, but if youv'e heard from anyone about good deals from places on this side of the globe I would appreciate it.

but I am passing through Hong Kong in a few weeks and wondered if Suunto computers were available there cheaper than Europe. Anyone have any experience or suggestions?

Hi DutchDown - From my experience, dive computers in HK (and Singapore actually) can be much cheaper than in Europe - however it depends on the brand: you will get better deals on Suunto than on Uwatec - don't ask me why

why dont you send off some emails for quotes, then you will know the exact prices - have to say that I find Thailand damned expensive for gear.

I just e-mailed divesupply in phuket and asked for prices for the items im looking at. I'll compare those to on-line stores and see.
