It looks like my job is going to take me to Texarkana Texas for about 6 weeks in May/June. Are there any good spots within say 2-3 hour drive? I would like to be able to leave Friday night, dive saturday/sunday and return. I'm AOW and have dived here in the gulf, so low viz is not a problem, but cold water might be. Might have to buy a thicker suit. I will have my own gear minus tanks and weights.

Don't know about parks, but you'll be within a couple hours of DeGray and Ouachita in Arkansas, and my favorite, Broken Bow in Oklahoma. All get chilly at depth, but you didn't say what you had in a wetsuit. By June the top 30 ft. or so is very comfy in a shorty and viz can be really nice. (Even better below the thermocline, but you'll need lights and a cold water suit.)

There's some small lakes down here, within a couple hours, that I visit. Give a shout when you get to T-town and I'll give you some more info.

Tanks and weights will be a problem as the closest shop is in Shreveport, unless you dive Broken Bow or Ouachita.

edit.. Aggiebq86 didn't say "scuba" parks, but ClearSprings is real close to that three hours drive, 150 miles +/-, and have air. Daingerfield State Park is one of the small lakes mentioned above, shallow, camping and day use. They were still renovating when I called a couple weeks ago, and closed. Tyler State Park would be about the same as ClearSprings.

Thank you for the info. Scubatexastony, if I make it to Texarkana and get the chance to dive, I'll PM you. Thanks.

I'm in Paris,Texas ( aka The birthplace of Modern Rock ;) )

I'll side with Scubatexastony ... Lake Broken Bow is my 'Favorite' and really close to you.
Stay tuned .. 'Got the Summer ahead of us... could be some fun stuff happening up there.
Chime in if you ever get the itch to dive, The Gap, Armadillo Hole, Brotherhood Bay, Bob Sled Run, Central Park.

I may need special clearance from the Dive Police to do The Elevator Shaft again.
