A buddy is getting married in Caracas, Venuzuela at the end of August.

I was thinking of dropping into Bonaire (since it is so close) for a wk of scuba diving.
A search of airline fares has been very expensive (>1k) as well as incredibly long (it required travel to Bogata and other cities).

Does anybody have experience in travel to the Dutch Caribbean from Caracas?

It looks like the fares to Aruba and Curacao are much more reasonable in the 2-300 range. Curacao to Bonaire by boat? I was just in Aruba last July. Never been to Curacao or Bonaire. I guess I could just goto Curacao.

Any good diving around Caracas?

I'm looking for good value minded options. Thanks.

Hi -

ABout 10 years ago, I was in Caracas with a friend, and we flew nonstop to Bonaire for about $150 RT...I cannot recall the name of the airline, but it was a little prop plane. Don't know if this still exists, but I imagine it does, as Bonaire is more popular now!

Curacao is also amazing diving - so don't think that would be a terrible fate if Bonaire doesn't pan out.

Just wanted to reassure you a bit - you may also want to contact a travel agent. Good luck!

lchan,,
if you're going to be in caracas, it should be a snap to go to los roques.
i was there a few years ago and the diving was pristine.
if you look at a map, los roques is in a straight line with the a b c islands.
when you come home please give us a trip report where ever you end up.
regards

That would be my choice as well, SB, but then again, everybody knows we're crazy. Los Roques, hands down... and it would have to be waaaay cheaper.

Aeropostal or Avensa?

I just put Caracas to Bonaire in Travelocity and it came up with $177 round trip.

Ditto on Curacao, if it's easier to just go there IMO it's just as good a place to dive.
