I don't know or remember how experienced you are, you could complete your profile, but no - rationalizing is not cool.
I will make sure to drink lots of water on my way down there.
And while you're there, too...
As far as returning to Atlanta, my flight is scheduled to leave Grenada at about 7:30am. This would mean I should not dive any time after 1:30pm the previous day (18hrs), correct? Doing shallow dives of around 30ft would also be suggested too, right? Could I do a shallow dive later in the day as well and not have to really worry either?
Diving over at 7:30am period. Jim is even more conservative than DAN suggests and that's fine, but no diving that afternoon. You need to dry your gear all afternoon anyway and pack that night.

Hope you have DAN dive insurance, Trip insurance, signal devices, and have a great trip. :pilot:

Forgot about that Don, I always use that last day to dry things out as well. Except maybe underwear. That goes in the bag that TSA will most likely inspect, on top! DAN's recommendations are based on alot of data. But everyone is different. I don't want to be the one that needs 18 hours and 10 minutes!

DAN does recommend you rest and hydrate the first night. Fatique and dehydration are risk factors for DCS.

Yea, my instructor did mention about flying and recommended waiting about 24hrs before boarding a plane after diving, but I wasn't sure if that was a hard rule or not. Like you said though, better be safe than sorry & I think I'll just hang out the final day.

Since I'm visiting a family member and she lives right on the beach, I think I'll be better off just doing some snorkeling off her shore for that final/last day. Maybe try to collect some sea glass like she does fequently. Would hate to end the trip by coming home and experiencing problems.

I recently got certified in Scuba diving about 7 months ago. I am going to be going on my first real scuba diving trip in about 2 weeks when I visit a family member in the Carribean (isalnd of Grenada).

I am obviously new to the world of Scuba diving. I am excited about my trip, but I want to be safe so I can keep on enjoying this hobby I have discovered for years to come and have a question about some flying rules and Scuba diving. I remember from my YMCA certification class that they talk about diving and flying and that you should wait about 24hrs after your last dive before you fly home. My question is this. Do I need to wait any amount of time when arriving?

I am leaving from the Atlanta area early on a Wednesday morning and arrive in Grenada about 9:15pm that night. I have read on the internet about you should probably wait about 12hrs after arriving at a destination before you go diving. I was hoping to go the following morning, but I guess I should maybe wait until at leat 9-10am Thu, right? Would this be a safe rule to follow?

based on personal expirience:
I've been doing dives as well as deep dives (100-120meters) after 8 and 11 hrs flights, I don't find this a problems, but flying AFTER diving...i'd wait at least 20-22hrs. less then a month ago I was flying some 18hrs after 32met/51min dive with 22hrs of no fly time on both of my VR3 computers. Still alive and rocking :)
On the other hand, I do at least 2 dives every week, one of them being at least 50met Tx deco dive so with time, the body buildup a certain tuning :) factor and offgassing might be going a bit faster then with a newbie diver (IMHO).
I did noticed a few years ago that after 10 dives on 100met on air, nitrogen narcosis limit was moving up from 48 to 78met, so i guess the offgasing might be the same thing.
Diving after flying? yes.
Flying after diving? not at least for 24hrs

Or 72 hours if you've just completed your 1100th dive in the last 11.5 months & it's time to go home for a week or 2 to get some of MaMa's cooking & Daddy's money.....:).......
