The two seem mutually exclusive to me, but then again, I'm a damn vegetarian hippie. I dive because I love watching critters going about their business in their own little world. I feel honored to be a guest down there: killing the same creatures I love watching, and who give me so much joy, just doesn't make sense to me. I've never eaten seafood and never, ever will.

One time I was taking a photo of a flounder, then my buddy like a ninja came out of the blue and stabbed it and took it home for dinner :( RIP Billy.

That must've been an AWESOME photo!

How could you eat something that looks so stupid and cute??

Because they're very tasty!

Fishing is an amazing part of our history as intelligent creatures on this planet.
Diving is one of the most wonderful things I have ever done.
I just wish I could find a dive boat that would let me fish or a fishing boat that would let me dive!

Been there ... dodging hooks being tossed in the water by people on your "dive" boat is stressful ... and stress isn't your friend underwater.

Diving and fishing off the same boat at the same time isn't a good idea ...

Wait-is Billy the fish or the Ninja?

No wonder people say don't dive with photographers.

I was an avid sport fisherman for decades before I began diving. Once I began to dive I gradually lost interest in fishing. I have so many fond memories of fishing that I still do it occasionally, but I quickly get bored with it. I am a catch and release fisherman so whether fishing or diving I don't bring any food home.

Has anyone else had this experience? Are others able to maintain an interest in fishing?

I don't know that diving had much of an impact, but I was once an avid fisherman but have not wet a line in 4 or 5 years now...don't miss it and don't see myself taking it up again, but I can't bring myself to get rid of my old gear either...

Yes, although I lost interest in fishing locally because there's just too much fishing pressure down here.

I will say for some reason after having several interactions and close encounters with groupers in Little Cayman, I seem to avoid eating a fried grouper sandwich now.

I did too, down in the Keys... ever since then I adopted my signature.

But given the choice, I'm sure the fish would prefer being bothered and released than being cleaned and fried.

:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3: So true!!!!
