I'll echo what most everyone has been saying...Maluku Divers is outstanding. Stayed/dove with them 4 times and will be there again next week :)

Dove with Maluku Divers mid-Sept 1012. They had only recently resumed operations following one of the rainest wet seasons in a long time. Everything was badly silted over on Laha side of the Bay. We did quite a few dives between other side of Bay as a result. Still, it was a good trip. Marcel was hoping that high tides would flush away the silt.

Maluku Diver's Resort is currently doing a mass clean up of the rubbish in Ambon. Here is a small blurb from their facebook page...

Maluku Divers Making Waves in Ambon, PART 3...

That's great to hear and a perfect example others can learn from and one of many ways we can help with various solutions we face in around our oceans which we all get so much pleasure from diving in,well done Maluku divers.

@Andreni Maluku divers are the most experienced in the area and there are a few homestays you can stay at,with budget in mind and easy enough to get to and from resort.

@ocdiver1 have a good time and let us know how get on when you are back

Hello all, what I found truly amazing about Ambon, was that despite all the garbage in the water, there was as many or more of all the flora and fauna found in the best sites of Indonesia-sharks almost every dive, huge schools of fish, pelagics, healthy corals, sponges and fans, and many small animals as well. Only saw 1 turtle though.

As Bill Bryson, the science writer says: "Life, it just wants to keep on living".

Seriously, all the plastic can't be good and probably the reason I only saw 1 turtle in a place with so much other life... -Andy

_-208.jpgFrom my last dive today here at Maluku Divers (Laha 3)...two rhinopias so far this visit, saw 7 the last time here! I'm a big fan of MD and couldn't imagine staying/diving anywhere else...and among everything else is 5-10 minutes from most of the prime muck sites. Blue Rose I know is a good hour away, the other outfit mentioned I hadnt heard of. No more garbage noted in the water than on your average Lembeh dive.

Thanks for the update! I'm there in 3.5 weeks - countdown is on!

Hi,
I’ve dived with bluemotion for 10 days this month. It’s a small shop just in front of Laha1 which means you can dive from the beach any time you want. Their dive boat is made for 8 divers but it was never full, I guess because not many people know about this shop so far. The atmosphere is very personal and relaxed which I liked a lot. They don’t have a resort and restaurant. I stayed in a homestay for 100.000 IDR (with breakfast) but actually didn’t go to my room between dives a lot because the dive shop has a shady garden under some trees with a platform and hammocks to relax. The homestay was basic but clean and really ok. In the evenings I mostly ate with the nice couple who runs the shop. I was travelling for a couple months and was very happy when I heard about the possibility of budget diving in Ambon. Bluemotion was exactly the right thing for me as I found nice people there and the diving was great, too! Froggis, Rhinopias, Nudibranch, Bobbit worm and all the other crazy stuff!

I extended my social visa in Ambon, very easy and was only 250.000 IDR.

While I stayed in Laha I saw the beach clean ups twice. Although they didn’t do it every day the beach was A LOT cleaner when I left then when I arrived.

@Andreni: hope this info is what you were looking for.

Luckysue, thank you very much for your response. Yes, this was exactly what I was looking for. So bluemotion would be an option. Now we have to think about all the possibilities. At the moment I still think we will stick to Maluku divers as Andy already helped me a lot with my questions.

I'm really glad to hear about you extending your visa in Ambon. So we don't have to spend money for a trip to KL, which we don't really want to do.

MA: please let me know all about your stay! Really looking forward to your trip report :D!

I would definitely be up to some Rhinopias! Great pic!

Again, thank you everybody for all your help! Much appreciated!

Blue Rose I know is a good hour away....(of the muck sites)
Then it seems you don't know ;)... they're roughly 20 minutes by boat from Laha (they have 2 very powerful and comfortable dive boats), 10 minutes from the south Ambon bay muck sites and 15 minutes from the best coral reef sites.

Well then I guess I stand corrected if that's the case lol..that's actually what my guide told me at Maluku Divers when I asked about Blue Rose. Still, being on top of the prime dive sites and diving them every day, along with the quality of guide at MD, would make them a top choice in Ambon... It's also worth noting that if you want to save money on accommodation you can still dive with them yet have them put you up at one of the local homestays/guest houses they deal with.
