Diver-Sixx:
Co0l, and no I think I seen that some where by the start of the thread. I`ll have to go back and see if I can find it again.

yeah, that would be pretty nuts if someone was proposing that.

Why do these threads go from a simple question about possible solo diving in knee deep water on the beach in Destin or at the Jetty into some long winded condemnation of solo diving which is in fact practiced by many experience levels within the dive community. All of these what if this and what if that and sharks and meteor arguments against solo or a bias and baloney.

It's all my fault N. Sorry for the shenanigans.

Well, it is OK, love(pun) a good argument but let's keep in mind that what the OP asked about is essentially scuba tank assisted wading/snorkeling. He is not taking on the Oriskany solo--yet.

Nemrod,
Your right. That's exactly what I ment. Basically tank assisted snorkling and just getting use to things. I didn't plan on going to the bottoms of the ocean.

:no I realize it is unsafe to dive alone but my question is, is there a law that states you cannott dive alone? If so, who controls this? The reason I am asking is I was wanting to go to Destin florida and dive around the jetties just of the beach but i would be by myself. I'm new to this diving experience and I know it is safer to dive with a buddy but sometimes it's impossible

Okay, now that we're back to the original question about laws/regulations relative to solo diving. I'm guessing one of the reasons Captain pointed the OP to the solo forum (post #3) was this solo diving ordinance and local regulations attachment sticky thead.

I hate laws that are designed to prevent stupid people from killing themselves...sucks for everyone else.

TomP:
I was responding to Post 17 by Ann Marie that suggested solo is Tech as evidenced by its placement on the board. The fact TDI sees it as recreational by contrast illustrates that the separations are artificial. That was the intent of my response.

The same applies to DIR, it's placed in the "Technical Forum" and in itself has nothing to do with technical diving. Just as Solo Diving in itself has nothing to do with technical diving.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I might even agree that solo diving and DIR are both *technically* diving, even if they're not *really* diving (according to PANADUII). :D
