Hi all. I passed my open water about 3 weeks ago and I am so KEEN to get wet again. I managed to get a couple of dives in before I had a tooth problem and had to have it pulled.

I have all my new gear but haven't used it yet. :jump013: But I don't want to go in too soon and ruin it.

The tooth was a molar, the 2nd one in from my wisdom tooth. It came out very easy and I have had no problems.

I would like to dive to no more than 10 metres.

How long should I wait to go into the water?

The other threads I have read seem to relate to wisdom teeth or bad pulls. These seem to recommend 2-6 weeks.

Should I wait 2 weeks? It has been a week and there is no pain. I can eat on that side of my mouth with no discomfort.

Appreciate any advice.

A simple extraction=no incision or bone removal, no tooth sectioning. You should be free of any pain, taking no medications, experiencing no post-operative complications and are able to comfortably hold the regulator in your mouth for an extended period of time. If all of this is true, then it MAY be possible to dive at two weeks.

If you have any doubts or questions then let the dentist check the site. There may be a small depression or partially filled socket...this will be present for up to several months.

How's that for short and sweet?

What is true for a wisdom tooth extraction would also be true for other teeth. The wisdom tooth extraction is perhaps more likely NOT to be a "simple extraction".

Hope everything feels ok now.

Oh, by the way...I'm sure you are aware that healing is exactly reversed for divers living in the Southern Hemisphere and from what I'm told, the Sun and Moon rise in the West and set in the East! :bogey:

Boom Boom!!

Yup, and the pressure decreases as we get deeper!

Thanks for that info. Of course I use common sense and if I get pain when diving I abort.

Can't wait to really get into it. I have snorkelled most of my life, and only just touched the diving.
