I am looking for some opinions on when is a reasonable time to go diving after a tropical storm/hurricane? Noel has passed and I am trying to plan a trip to dive on Friday in Key Largo/Islamorada. Does it take awhile for things to settle down regarding visibility and currents? I know this time of year, the weather pretty unpredictable.

We called the charter we are thinking of using and they said vis was 30 ft today and things look great for next weekend. I hate to be skeptical but I also realize it might not be the best for the business to say the diving isn't good either...

Thanks for any advice!

Some of the best diving I've ever done was right after Francis. Sometimes it clears right up, sometimes the same crappy water runs up and down the coast for weeks, it all depends on the winds and the currents. I wouldn't be afraid to make the reservations... you can cancel 24 hours out right?

Just talked to dive shop in Pompano who said vis was still pretty bad. I was out of town on biz for a week so missed it all.

Anyone gone diving in Broward/Palm Beach since the storm?

We went yesterday, about an 8 foot groundswell, 3 foot vis. I'll let you know later how it is today.

We were just talking about heading over to LBTS and then the marine report had a small craft advisory and rip current warning. So...no diving for us...again. :( Hopefully, next weekend in the keys work out.

We were at the beach yesterday and there were tons of surfers and the waves were breaking pretty far out from shore. Sweet beach day though.
