Hello All,

We are thinking of going to Playa this June instead of Cozumel due to the lack of direct flights to the island (I don't fly well). Can anyone recommend a Dive Op over there? We use DWM when on Coz so something comparable would be great. We don't need to rent gear but like the small boats.

How is the diving from over there? Does Playa have it's own reefs or do they come towards Coz?

Thanks
Chilidog

Dare I say it? Fly to Cancun and take the 15 minute Mayair to CZM? Or get my van guy to haul you to the ferry?

"They have some really great diving in Playa" said no one ever.... :)

You do realize there is a ferry between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel? If you like Cozumel, why would you not just take the ferry over instead of staying and diving in Playa?

If you dive in Playa look up "Beyond Diving"...boutique operator with great rental equipment! Erik will take you to the cenotes, reefs, wrecks and you can go over to Cozumel by boat directly without using the ferry.

I just got invited to a wedding in Playa Del Carmen next December. I may be able to dive two days. Never been to Cozumel... So basically the verdict is to take the ferry and not even dive in Playa?

I get sea sick hence no ferry and yes I get sick on the dive boats also but I'm usually ok once I get in the water. also, if I'm going to get in the puddle jumper, I may as well take two major airlines.

Thank you to those that actually answered my question.

Aha. You didn't mention the seasickness, hence no ferry. I guess your question has been answered.

I posted this a while ago but apparently somehow it got lost in the bitstream...

To answer your other question: When diving on the Playa del Carmen side of the channel, you won't see the walls and pinnacles that you see on the Cozumel side. Over there it's mostly flat terrain with the occasional small canyon and scattered smallish coral heads. There is a turtle hatchery over there, so you will usually see turtles, and you may run across a school of tarpon, which is pretty cool.
