Had the first opportunity in years to dive again with Divers Down yesterday.

Surf entry to swim out to the boat was a bit challenging but plenty of assistance on hand to help with camera gear and haul up downed divers, didn't help much in my plan to keep my ears dry though.

Due to the rough weather it was not possible to make a two tank trip as the boat would have had too much gear on board, so we had to endure two bumpy rides to the dive sites, weather unfortunately cannot be controlled.

Even at Dibba Rock at 12M one could feel the surge above, which made this 2:1 macro shot of a scorpionfish rather challenging.

Hospitality with DD is excellent though, Karin was always on hand to assist and Paul actually was in the water too helping assist people in and out to the dive boats. Would love to have stayed on and relax afterwards but with a 2 hour drive back to Dubai and a desire to get home in daylight kicked that idea out unfortunately.

Will be back when the sea is calmer hopefully in a week or two (new moon), and hopefully have a chance to dive with a fellow Land Rover owner ;)

Gordon,

there is a cheap place place between Dibba and Al Aqah where we usually stay. They are 3 bed apartments, double beds en-suite, tv, internet, kitchen. Take your own food etc, but it is only 250dhs a night.

Travel on thursday evening, stay there, dive friday morning (not tired/stressed), drive home.

Thank you for those kind words :) It was great fun to have you here, but we felt really sorry that the seas were so rough. At least it was good exercise for Karen, Matt, Mike and Paul to haul gear and divers through the surf ;) It was such an impressive sight when all your 4x4's came driving in convoy towards the dive centre - wish I'd had my camera! Also proud to be a member of the UAE Land Rover Owners group now :D

Simon's idea is excellent! We do indeed have an agreement with an apartment "hotel". Nothing fancy, but clean and nice - and it's 250 for a 2-bedroom, 350 for a 3-bedroom apartment (all en-suite). Also Miramar has summer rates now - 486 at weekends, 240 on weekdays (has to be booked through us, otherwise it's more expensive). Just let me know..............

Thanks to both of you for your visits - and see you soon
Karin :D

Sounds like a plan Karin will no doubt be through during the week and de-stress from Dubai, how many divers do you need before you take the boat out?

When are you going to Oman again? I need to go there on business and thinking about taking my dive gear too ;)

Make sure you let me know I can always make plans to come over and join you guys during the week

Cheers

Hi Michael,

Where are you working in Riyadh? I might be over there soon on business.

Back in Jeddah now we split our work up we move to Jeddah in May then back to Riyadh in Sept sometime . I work for the Royal Clinic .

We need a minimum of 1 diver to go out (4 for night dives though, cause we pay the staff extra for those)........if you're the only one, means one of us "has to" go diving with you as a buddy ;)

Well if shortdivemedic does not make across at least I know I have a reliable "instabuddy" :rofl3: and you do make a good cup of green tea :coffee:

Another pair of eyes and a torch to find stuff on Inch 2 is a real asset .... lets see if we can beat 11 species then, although April / May are the best months.

shortdivemedic, I used to work at KFAFH in Jeddah before I moved to Dubai, worked in various other medical establishments in the Magic Kingdom for 11 years before finishing the tunnel ;)

If you manage to get over to Dubai, I can transport you to the east coast.
