I understand that the DiveRite Hurricane reg is built in the same factory as Beauchat regs in the south of France, all be it to a different spec. I had a less than favourable experience with a Beuchat octopus several years ago and am a little cautious about buying a reg built in the same factory.

Does anyone have any positive feedback on the DR Hurricane in terms of performance, reliability, and long term manufacturer support?

For what it is worth I carry the Diverite regulators is my store, so I am biased. I can carry anything I want in my store and I chose Dive Rite along with a few other brands... Anyway I personally use the Dive Rite Hurricance and like it a good bit. It breathes very well. Also Dive Rite stands behind their products. If you wind up with one of these I dont' think you will be disappointed.

Thanks Brent. For many years I used Scubapro regs and was extremely satisfied. I'm recently returning to diving again with my daughter and have heard good reports on the Hurricane but was a little wary. Nice to hear some more positive feedback. It might sway me away from the old faithfull SP.

The truth is that most of the manufactures don’t make their own regulators they job them out, and like you said they do have them built to their standards. Much like masks, their are probably 60 different brands and only 8 plants making them! They use different grades silicone on a few but for the most part same mask different name! I have not dove with the Hurricane but have dove the Dive Rite RG-2500 and it’s a nice Reg. we do sell the Hurricane and have had good feed back… so let the fact that they are made in the same factory scare you I’m sure right next to that one is another brand!

Sorry for the hijack but Since it was mentioned, does any one have a list of the major reg brands and what places they are manufactured. Thanks

Is a service manual available for the Hurricane in PDF format for free like with other Dive-Rite regs, or will one be forthcoming?

I bought a Hurricane along with a RG1215 Octo this spring from Dan's dive shop (these guys are great) in St. Catherines, Ontario. I've done about 30 dives with this reg, all in relatively cold water, down to 44 degrees. Absolutley effortless breathing! It is built by Beauchat and Dive Rite put it's name on it, good enough for me.

I don't know about the Dive Rite Hurricane exactly, but most of Dive Rites regulators are made by Ocean Divers Supply in Taiwan.

You can buy a "clone" of most of the regulators by other brand manufacturers.

To be fair with that last statement though, according to post by Jordan of Dive Rite on DECOSTOP, the Dive Rite regulators come with some parts that are specific to Dive Rite, even if they are made by Ocean Divers. So they might have a fancier diaphram or something for example than the generic version.

Ocean Divers Supply also makes regulators for Divers Supply (Maccon GA), ScubaMax, and others. I'm sure several of the "big name" manufacturers use them also for all sorts of stuff.

Since you were asking about other brands also, even one of Scuapro's regs is made by TUSA. (I think the RS-460 is the same as a Scuba Pro reg, but can't remember which one).

TUSA makes masks & fins for Scubapro also.

I'm sure others can add to the list of who makes what.

Example Sherwood and Genesis stuff are made together.
Oceanic and Aeris stuff are made together.. etc.
