I've been watching for a thread on the subject of divers without diving partners. Having been unable to find one, I decided to give it a shot.

For starters, where are some places that have good diving and offer interesting things to do for the non-diver? On the other hand, what sort of places are to be avoided?

Please be kind. This is my first post and I'm clueless about how to do it properly!

Ondeen,

Probably the easiest way to get started gradually is go to one of the all-inclusive resorts that offer diving as part of the part of the package. They offer a protected environment, and are used to having groups of newbies to guide. They also have lots of non-diving stuff for your SO to do while you are blowing bubbles. The dive buddies that you get on such group dives can turn out to be good people to meet. After a couple of trips like that under your belt, you will be able to make better decisions as to how you want to branch out.

Also, hang out a bit at the LDS where you received your training. Talk to folks. See what trips are being planned. Ask if there is anyone who needs a buddy for such trips, and try meeting that person for coffee at the local Megabucks Coffee House to get to know them first. :D

One thing...fill out your info sheet just a little more so others will know where you are at least from and would be willing to contact you on upcoming dives.

Yes, definitely finish filling out your profile. Also there is an opt-in forum for "single" divers. For singles and for those whose SO doesn't dive.

Uh, actually the Singles forum is for Singles only - not for those whose SO does't dive....
Scuba Singles
A ScubaBoard Club just for our single divers who are currently not married or dating. and who are 18+. To post to this forum you will first need to join the singles group.
But there are many other options for this thread originator. :D

Divers without dive buddies? Don't get me started. :)

Where do you want to dive, have dove already etc?

Welcome to the SB...:D

Well...one thing you can do is sign up for a travel package, checkout the following site...

Couple of pointers.

Look for a dive club (s) in your area.

Consider one of the SB trips - perhaps to Bonaire. Go with the intent of meeting people to do trips with later on.

I would say get out and dive. I never go diving with a diving buddy as none of my friends nor my SO dive however I have NEVER had a problem as I always find a buddy to team up with on the boat. Do not ever let it keep you from diving.

There are plenty of potential dive buddies out there. When you pick up one or assigned one, talk to him or her to make sure you agree on protocols and on the dive plan. Of course, you could do what I did, although it takes some time: I grew one. I trust him. He trusts me. I know his capabilities. He knows mine. I'd do anything to protect him during a dive. He'll keep me safe during a dive.
