Mr X. These are the stories that make me take every dive seriously and causes me to even lose a buddy or two that don't think of or plan for unforeseen events as these. I've read quite a few that have put some fear into me not to be too nonchalant with the dive.

I like the book "Basic SCUBA" by Fed Roberts as it helps to prepare one well to handle the rigors of Basic SCUBA diving that in reality isn't all that basic according to his book. Diving New England is stressful especially on hot days where we have to wear 7mm dive suits and walk a bit for the entry. I must have lost 5 gallons of sweat at Folley Cove on a 98 degree day on just the entry.

All the best to his family and friends dealing with this tragedy.

Agreed. I hope the person is OK. Good Harbor is no cakewalk. The surf can be pretty tough.

I can only imagine that's a swell exposed beach Mr X.

When the article mentions they are trying to still identify the man and they tried to resuscitate him, it really concerns me that the diver didn't fair well.

I'm really saddened by this.

We are just starting the Memorial Day weekend and the fun dives for the new divers. I hope we can all have a safe diving season and be prepared to handle unexpected occurrences such as this.

who isn't? somebody died and nothing will brings him back;
i wish people would be more realistic though, have a better grip on what they can and what they can't do, be more careful. i never dove that particular spot but cape ann can get some decent swell at times.
i hope this does not "enlighten" somebody to push for new regulations, just the other day a smarty pants in rhode island started instructing me how i can't leave my flag on the inflatable and should tow it with me, like towing the boat is not enough, ....

A lot of new divers don't realize that it's illegal through local ordinance to dive from the rocks at Stonington Beach in CT. I hear this is from an accident a long time ago. You must dive from the beach that does not allow diving from 9-10am to 4-5 pm.

Local ordinances do arise from tragedies as such.
