On our last live aboard, we did a more PC sign for nurse shark that was same as shark but put to fore fingers on wrist as if you're taking a pulse. I like the other way better though.

My girlfriend Jill is starting her OW class tonight, and she was asking if I'd be interested in learning ASL with her so we'd be able to talk underwater.

If I'm going to bother learning an extensive hand signal vocabulary beyond the basics that every diver should know, that seems to me like a good way to go.

I know ASL, it can be handy but it's hard to do with gloves on, guess it depends on where you live/dive.

Seasigns has modifications to the signs so they are easily understood even with gloves and or mits. not a problem.
