Even with a good float plan it's always a good idea to enter the water in pairs no matter what you're doing, you just never know what might happen.

It is particularly important to have a safety diver when doing certain sorts of activities.
Maui News:
(Coast Guard Petty Officer Michael) De Nyse said Moore was a well-conditioned, althletic man who had taken up free diving and was trying to reach a depth of 100 fet at the dive site using a snorkel and regular swim fins during his Thursday evening dive.

If it's true that he was in fact trying to extend his freediving depth, then shallow water blackout is a definite possibility, although we will probably never know the true cause of death.

Last update is that he was dead before being nibbled on. Then today in the same location, a girl was bitten!
Clearly Hawaii is a dangerous spot to dive and y'all should go somewhere else. Florida maybe but not here! We will let you know when it's safe to return to our dive spots.
