I just received a letter from the Shark Count Project that talks about Mark, the diver who passed away. This is from Ron Clough. What a very sad story....
"It with great sadness I have to announce the death of my best friend and most valuable researcher, Mark S. Conyers. Mark's dedication to the research and his love of the marine environment can not be measured. Mark has been with the research project since its start and has completed hundreds of research dives. Most of those dives were with me. The depth of my sorrow can not be conveyed. From the rugged shores of Monterey to the sweeping beaches of Southern California, these many years have passed like an endless summer.
Mark died doing what he loved best, scuba diving. Mark was exploring the deep trench at La Jolla Shores in San Diego, California. Details of the incident are being withheld pending the final investigation. Mark S. Conyers was pronounced dead on the evening of July 25th, 2007. Mark S. Conyers leaves behind his wife Marybeth Mosher, daughter Laura Conyers-Wade, Son Daniel Conyers-Marble and granddaughter Jennifer Wade.
From Monday July 30 through August 1, Mark can be seen throughout Ventura county on CNN news channel performing research as part of a short report about the Shark and Ray Count. The spot will run throughout those days at 23 or 53 on every hour.
The memorial service will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Monday July 30th. The address is 3150 Loma Vista Road. Ventura, CA. The memorial service is open to the public.
