Diver death in Grand Cayman

We all felt really bad for the diver's family and wished there was something we could have done or said to them. This event happened about 10:15am and by 1:30 or so, it seemed like the family was being escorted off the ship. We never even knew who he was traveling with.

Being a single diver I've experienced everything from a dive buddy whose "buddy" concept was - you get in the water together and he was gone to someone who was the best dive buddy I've ever had. Even though I was a relatively inexperienced diver compared to this guy, he always stayed with me and since we were both into photography, we took the dives slow and pointed out things to each other.

This whole thing will certainly leave a lasting impression on me and make me a lot more cautious about doing the right things ahead of a dive.

Not sure if I'm clear on this. Did they pull him up on the dive boat that you were diving off, or where you off a Crusie ship? Did anybody, his buddy, offer an explaination as to what happened to the diver?

Accidents happen. I am just curious what was the name of the dive op?

What was the profile of the dive? Perhaps it was simply a heart attack that could have happened just as easily over dinner, in which case, your conclusion in which he died while enjoying the sea is perhaps correct, although certainly disturbing the others on board.

It seems so many dive accidents are heart attacks. I am a 55 YO male have been diving for 22 years. I have also been a runner since the age of 20. I ran my last of 5 marathon's
in 1999, after which I blew out my knee. Now I run only 15 miles a week. I took up swimming. I swim at the local college 3 times a week 1/2 hr a day
My wife ( a physician) is alway on my back to get an annual checkup.

I'm relatively new to this scuba chat stuff and not sure if I'm allowed to post names - but guess it will get edited if not. We were diving with Don Foster's Dive Center out of Georgetown, Grand Cayman.

I dove with Don Fosters in 84.85.and 86. They were running pontoon cattle boats at the time, but other wise good divers. In those days the first dive was a 130 ft wall dive then a second 50 ft dive.
