I wonder why he took off his mask and reg? I understand that his embolism caused him to become disoriented on ascent, but wouldthat have caused him to stop what is probably completely natural for him, and that is breathing through a reg?

I understood that he had an age bubble that ended up in his brain somewhere. Imagine having a stroke or brain bleed at depth, and while on an apex dive....

It's possible, if not probable, that his mask was knocked off when he went into the narrow section, but high-flow can EASILY spin your mask off too.
