There aren't that many reported accidents in Lake Constance (8 in 2013, 5 in 2014 with 2 deaths each year). But it's deep (820 feet) dark and cold - as are most of the lakes in the region.

I dove here a week later on the opposite side near the 'devils table' on the edge of the forbidden for divers zone . Bodensee is known for its underwater down drafts but the side they were on has a relatively easy gradient. We had 11oC at the surface to about 6oC at 40m, though on the Konstanz side it's a sheer cliff face from 2m to 110m.
Hence it's more normal for the accidents to happen there and hence the restrictions...
