Agreeing with everyone's suggestion of Breakwater in Monterey. Since its only a couple hours for you its convenient. Very easy dive, navigation is super easy. Yes, the water will be a bit colder than SoCal, but its doable. And if you swim out far enough, you can visit the sea lions!
