Look at the oms one, it is really durable, slips on the wrist and go from there. If the pencil dies, go to theart store and get a replacement, you can get a box for 10.00$ with about 20 pencils in it
 
Surgical tubing or a thin bungee cord with an alligator clip.
 
Just use a standard, normal piece of "cave" line (thin braided nylon string) and a piece of electronics heat shrink tubing over the pencil/line to bond the two permanently. Buy yourself a box of golf pencils and you're good to go.

Even Radio Shack still manages to carry heat shrink tubing, despite having changed to little more than a cell phone store these days...
