Hi,

I want to make a few 4" X 8" dive slates for discover scuba activities. What kind of material is used to make them? Also, will I need to prep the slate beforehand?

I use scrap pieces of thin wall PVC pipe. A length of 4 in diameter pipe cut in half will yield 2x 6+ in wide pieces. Once you have it cut into 2 pieces, place it between 2 flat surfaces- I use ceramic tile with a brick on top for more weight. Slowly heat this in a 200 Deg F oven until the tiles are flat together. Allow the oven and tiles to cool before you remove them. Cut them to what ever size you like. No other prep is necessary unless you want to sand off any text that might be on the pipe.
