Hi,

We are currently in the Deep River area. (Close to Petawawa, Chalk River and Pembroke). Are there any dive sites or shops around here, or do we have to go all the way back to Ottawa (approx 2 hrs drive)?

Thanks.

Try posting on ontario diving's forum, I think they even have a pembroke/petawawa section of their forum.

Just in case.....

Thanks. In order to post there, you have to join (which I did), but then you also have to be approved, which I currently have not been! ARGH.. Hopefully one of the mods there will eventually get around to it! ;) Thanks for the info!

As I recall they do not take long to approve you. In fact, IIRC it was quick enough for me I just assumed it was automatic.

It's now been over 24 hrs... :depressed: I'll cross my fingers they do it soon! Thanks for the suggestions and links.

Theres the CFB Petawawa Scuba Club, which is open to both military and civilians. Its located on base at Dundonald Hall (the base gym and pool complex). Currently we open on Wednesday nights from 7-8pm. We've got a full air station, gear rentals (tanks, regs, BCD, wetsuits), and many pool nights and organized dives. You can contact the club at petawawascuba@gmail.com for more info.

I'm a mod on OD as well, I'll see what is holding up your login. There was never an approval process in the past, so this may have to do with the recent upgrades that were done. It is a no alias forum, so if you signed up using something other than a variation of your real name that could be the issue.

Hi, it's going to be my first time to engage in diving here. I'm taking my cousins with me but their diving gear isn't complete yet. Can anybody suggest a store nearby the area that sells affordable diving equipment. They have the tank already but no mask and snorkels yet. thanks in advance.

The responses to you are no doubt the same as those given to the OP. The only thing I would consider is that each store is likely to carry different brands and when buying complete kits, you will be spending a fair bit of money. This means it might be worthwhile driving a couple of hours if it will get you what you want and possibly save you a fair bit. Widen the search to beyond the immediate area and do some research. Determine what you think you want and then talk to shops all around you and see who can best meet your needs. It may not be "the guy around the corner".....or it might be. Just go into the purchase knowing what you want and leave feeling good about it.
