What is a good dive site for a novice diver off the coast of North or South Carolina? I have been certified for many years but have not been diving. I have taken a refresher. I actually set in on an OW class and did all the classroom and pool work with the class. I even went on the check out dives with class to the local quarry. I want to try to make it down to the coast this summer and do some diving and would like to know the dive sites that would be good for a novice.

Coastal Scuba runs out of North Myrtle Beach and Express Watersports runs out of Murrell's Inlet.

Both offer dives not too deep to deep, not too far off shore, and not too expensive. Warning: Coastal Scuba runs more of a cattle boat, but they always have something going out.

If you are in the Morehead City area, try a trip to the intact wreck of the INDRA. Discovery Diving and Olypmus Diving both run afternoon trips there most weekends.

In Wilmington, hook up with Aquatic Safaris to the Liberty Ship (Alexander Ramsey, IIRC) or another inshore site that they recommend.

In the North Myrtle Beach area, try a trip to Barracuda Alley or the Sherman with Coastal Scuba.

All of these sites are frequently visited by newly certified open water divers (and experienced divers like them too).

Enjoy-
Rich

Johnny Quest:
Thanks for the info.

Last time i was down that way, I dove the Indra. Sunk in 95 for a reef. still has some decent swimthroughs....I think we left out of morehead.

Relatively shallow (rests on the bottom at 65 ft with a slight current.

Good wreck dive for a novice....
