Ok I know this probably belongs in the gear section, but I need help from my fellow NE divers. For the past year I have been thinking about going to a BP/wing configuration. Well I finally took the plunge and bought a SS plate and harness that was marked down considerably since it is an Abyss, which as we all know is now defunct. Normally I wouldn't buy gear from a "dead" company, but for the price I couldn't resist. Anyways, it does not have a wing so of course now I have to get one. While I purchased the plate online I would just as soon get some input on a LDS that might carry such an item. I live in WMass and none of the local shops carry wings/BP...but I am willing to look in CT or eastern mass, or RI. Can anyone give me a reccomendation on a GOOD shop?

The owner is an active tech diver/senior tech instructor and carries all the tech gear you need.

I'm not a fellow NE diver, however, I know of a good shop that just happens to have a couple Abyss wings in stock. Good products, one's a single bladder, the other (I believe) is a double bladder wing. The price will be right. Shop is Virginia Scuba, in Manassas Virginia, however, due to the magic of the internet you can order from their online store with a few clicks of a mouse!

www.vascuba.com

follow the link to their online store. 'Course, you may have to call them to inquire into their Abyss wings, as they will no doubt be a tad amazed that a guy in NE is calling about wings that are not listed in their online stock!

They are reliable to work with.

Regards,

Doc

Soggy:
Try SCUBA Shack, CT in Rocky Hill, CT. They are the 3rd largest Halcyon dealer in the world and Ed Hayes is a GUE Fundamentals Intern instructor. They are a great shop.

I agree, call them up - talk them and if you don't want to make the trip (probably about 1.5hours for you or maybe less) they will probably ship to you. As soggy said, they are a great shop.

That said, you could also just buy an halcyon or oxycheq wing online.

Thanks for the input guys...I'll check these shops out. By the wat Doc, Virginia Scuba is where I found the BP, but the only wings they had were too large for what I am looking for. In fact it looks like I grabbed the last BP/harness they had on sale.

Most (any?) wing will fit (most) any brand of BP. I would not worry 'bout buying an Abyss BP ... it's not as though there is any regular maintenance that needs to be performed by a shop. Just clean it, replace the harness when necessary and enjoy the plate.

Ed is a great easy going guy who doesn't try to sell you Tell him Chris P referred you. He does all sorts of tech and commercial and dives a wing himself. I do most of my buying at his shop since he is a pretty soft spoken and not pushy in any way.
