Hey guys

I'm going to order a dive rite transpac and am stuck over which wings to get... I dive with AL80 or Steel 80s usually but sometimes use steel 95s... I like the compactness of the travel wings but does anyone have experience on how big of a tank these guys can actually handle (e.g. can it handle a steel 95?)... My other option would be a Venture wing which I'm pretty sure can handle any sized single cylinder, but would rather be more streamlined (travelwings) since both are rated for 30lbs... else It would make more sense to get the Ventures... btw I'm 5'6" around 140lbs... any experiences?

Matt

You know Matt, you don't HAVE to get a DR wing, just because you are using their TP. But to answer your question it depends whether you will be using integrated weights or not, and if so how much. Same for other weights too, like canister lights.

I dive a steel 14 ltr tank with the travel wing. It's no problem at all. I'm not sure how that relates to cu ft but I believe a 80 cuft tank is around 11.3 ltr or so.
As you pointed out - both the Venture and the Travel are rated to 30lbs lift. that means that they can handle the same tanks.

Steel 120 with Aldora in Coz using the travel wing. No problem.

I don't think the travel wing is significantly "more streamlined" than the venture wing. They're both really small wings. If you want the travel wing, do an ebay search for "jetharness air cell". I have one and I believe it's the exact same wing; when I bought mine it was $140. Now they might have gone up to the point where it's about the same as the travel wing.

If you want streamlined, take a look at the "Oxycheq Mach V" wing.
I have a Dive Rite Rec Wing and thought I wanted the Travel Wing......:no
Until I saw the Mach V. This will be the next wing for me.
This wing is so streamlined that it makes most look huge.

I dove the Transpac II with the travel wing in Northern California with HP 100's, LP Steel 95's and had no problems. It is a very nice streamlined wing. However, it can only be used with the Transpac. If you think you might get a backplate at any time in the future, I would advise getting a different wing.

With a little modification, it can be used with BP

Don't know why can't upload the pics, will try later

Just add a couple of groomets and presto, BP small wing.

I pick up a sta and a venture wing for a trip to hawaii. i used it with a steel 121' tank, had no problems with the wing floating it. i very rarely dive a single tank, so if you're interested I could make you a great deal on the wing and sta, so if you go to a bp later you'll still have a way of using the wing for a single tank. pm me if interested.

Thanks for all of your suggestions... the Mach V interested me however I didn't want to mess too much with STAs... anyway I went ahead and had my LDS order me a transpac with travel wing, knowing that I probably wont be diving with greater than a steel 95, and knowing that I probably wont be switching to a backplate--unless its for doubles perhaps... anyway I'll be diving with it this weekend w/ a 95 and ill be sure to update. M.
