Hi-
When I finished an IANTD Overhead course in Malaysia I asked my instructor for a BC recommendation - he said get the Transpac II - so I did. I bought it in Singapore on my way home to Japan so didn't get to check it out with JC - I just had the small manual that came with it. I use it with Travel wings - single cylinder. The first time out I found that it rode a little up my back and ended up with my 1st stage in the back of my neck - I tried to adjust it a little more but couldn't stop it happening. I bought the crotch strap and that fixed the problem, but I still wonder if I didn't adjust it properly in the first place. Is it reasonable to have to use the extra strap? Anyone got any other suggestions about the setup? As it is now I'm very happy with it - it's really stable in the water and fine for trim and buoancy. None of the shops round here (Kyushu/Okinawa) sell Dive Rite though - so I've not been able to get any professional checkout on it yet.

Set you bc with the top strap as high it can go on the tank.

Having to use a crotch strap is not a bad thing, most technical divers use one, it definitely helps keeping everything in place. Also, it's not unique to have your BC, regardless of the design, ride up on the surface.

Thanks for the reassurance! Actually I think part of the problem might be my developing beer gut! I've put about 10 kilos weight on since coming to live in Japan!!

LOL! Tell me about it. I put on 15kg in about six months when I first arrived! It's stable now though.

Sure do! A combination of food, beer and winter (i live in Nagano so it gets pretty cilly) set it all off. :yippie17:

Anyway back on topic, I'm thinking of buying a transpac II harness myself so I'm also interested to hear comments about this.

KimLeece: Do you use the Dive Rite trim weights? I use the 4lb weights and hook them in with stainless quick links.

The first time I went on a dive vacation without my weights I noticed that my Transpac did the same thing that happened to you. So when I got back I bought a crotch strap to conteract the problem. Now I use it all the time - even if I am using the trim weights.

No I don't. I actually bought the pockets for the weight system - but they don't fit! I'm not really sure what happened but the diagram to attach them featured one plate (which the weight bags are designed for) and my plates are not the same shape - the webbing comes out in a different direction! I couldn't fit them! However I do have the ordinairy zip pockets on the belt and I don't think that there is any room to have the zip pockets & the weight system together - so I just use an extra external weight belt. As I've never had a trim problem I've never even heard about external clippable weights!! Maybe there is something here that I need to know??

This page shows you what I am talking about. They have 4lb and 7lb trim weights. If you look at the picture of the Transpac at the top you can see the D-rings along the back where you attach them. But remember these are NON-ditchable weights. So you still will want to use a belt or a weight harness for some of your weights.
