Anybody use this set up? I'm looking for something to throw onto my backplate rig and be able to get rid of the weight belt altogether. I dive in a drysuit with heavy thermals and the weight belt is really a pain in the _ss. I know these used to have some problems with inadvertend ditching. Appreciate any experiece or feedback on this product. thanks

I just use generic inexpensive velcro closure weight pouches. They are smaller than any of the brand name competitors and about 1/2 the price. They fit on any two inch belt.

I use a backplate/one-piece harness and I put one pouch on each side of my waist harness to use for 1 pound trim ballast but normally they don't get used. I also use a weight belt on which I put one pouch on each side along with stationary weights. Again, this allows me to easily add or remove weight after my first dive without having to fuss with my belt.

BTW - my backplate is SS so if I do ever need to drop weight I woudl only drop about 1/2 of it.

I doubt the 16# size would be adequate for you. The standard size, 32#, would be a better choice. The 16 would work well for me here, but alas, they didn't have it when I got my DR gear. How much weight are you putting in your belt, that should give you the answer right there as to the sizing. If you have something really negative like hp100's and ss bp, you may be able to use the smaller size, or are you using a Vweight and just keeping a small amount on the belt?

The down side to the pouches is that the larger ones tend to crowd the hip D-rings (at least on me with a small waist) and you have to position them back against the bp to keep the D rings easy to access. The belt, on the other hand, lets you have them (the weights) more spread out and towards the front for balance if you prefer. I have one set of the new style, and one set of the older style. You ain't gonna loose 'em by accident with the new ones for sure, and it would have had to be quite a CF to loose them with the older style.

Personally, I'd really like to try the 16's, but not enough to spend almost $100. ..... Maybe someone wants to swap some 16's for my 32's.

Good luck

Darlene

I use a set 32 lb DR weight pouches. The velcro is very generous and not subect to wear as you can top load the pouches througha zipper. I am not worried about inadvertant dumping.

The pouches don't crowd my D-rings to any noticeable degree, but then I also have a 36" waist. I prefer the Dive rite pouches to the bulk and complexity of Halcyon's integrated weight pouches and the DR pouches keep the weight close to the backplate which works well for me trim wise.

With double 72's and an AL backplate I use only 16 pounds of weight with my drysuit, so, depending on your weight requirements, the 16 pound pouches may work for you but it could be a tight fit.

I curently dive with a stainless steel bp and sta with an HP 120 single. The 16 lbs in the pockets will be adequate and if I need a little more I can use a clip weight or just throw an ankle weight around my tank valve. thanks for the opinons,

If the 16 lb system isn't quite enough weight for you there is another option. You could add extra non ditchable weight to your Transpac.

They have 4 and 7 lb trim weights. You have to use them in pairs and you attach them to your transpac using SS quicklinks clipped to the little D-rings that are on the back of your harness. You can see the rings in the link above. I used the 4lb weights along with a weight belt for a couple of years until I switched over to using the DUI Weight and Trim 2 this season.

He says he is using a BP(and not a transpac), so it may be that the 4 and 7 lb weights won't fit, but I'm not sure. Anybody know if the 4 and 7 lb weights fit the hole positioning on bp's?

I've been looking into this, and have an SS BP, so I have not purchased any nonditchable weight so far.

Oops didn't see that part of the post. But no matter. The non-ditchable weights can be attached to a BP too. :crafty:
