Sorry I have tried searching for answers to this question but my eye's are going to fall out if I read much more. Can anyone give me their opinion on using the transpac system compared to the plate?

Never use the Transpac but the TransPlate is certainly a nice system. Pretty stable and easy to get in and out.

I have the Transplate myself. However, were I to get another BP, I'd go for a standard plate and standard harness.

The problem with the harness on the Transplate is there is limited options for D ring placement on the shoulder straps. Also, the adjustment on the shoulder straps is limited at well.

The padding on the shoulder straps is a waste unless you're diving without a protective suit.

The only advantage I can see after using it for over 100 dives is the quick releases and those really aren't that big of a deal to me.

Depends on what you plan to do. If you are going to dive doubles, then the Transpate is more stable. For singles, the Transpac is a great choice. It is stable, comfortable, and adaptable.

The transplate is all that and more adaptable . It will be the last setup you will need to buy. Doubles , singles , if you want to swap to DIR , when you have a plate they sky is the limit, well the bottom actually is

I enjoy the transpac for the single backgas tech dive. Will be going to a plate when I go to doubles. Really like my small Balanced BC when traveling out of the country for vacation Diving.

I think the evolution of the BC from padded and bulky to streamlined and basic goes like this...

Jacket BC, Back inflate BC, transpac, transplate/deluxe harness, hog rig...

One is not not better than the other, but most who migrate, follow this pattern from left to right. I did and am now in my "transplate phase," lol! I will likely end up all the way to the right eventually and it has taken me almost 200 dives to migrate. I have owned them all but the hog rig. Just save yourself time and money and start at the far right. Good luck!

I do believe that the transplate has been the best ALL PURPOSE bc I have yet purchased for the wide variety of diving I do. One week 40 degrees in a dry suit shore diving and the next week 84 degrees in trunks off a boat. Using only one BC in all of your situations will always lead to compromise. The transplate had been the best compromise yet.

The one other advantage of the Transplate is that it gets 6 lbs of lead off your belt...:D

Thanks for the opinions guys BTW I went with DSS and it rocks!!!
