I'm trying to find some opinions on the Rec wing. My friend is buying the transpac setup. She is looking for a wing that will work with singles as well as doubles. I can't see the size of her doubles ever exceeding LP95s and an aluminum stage bottle which will work fine with that wing, but what i'm trying to find out is how well will this work doing single tank diving? If she travels is there any way to dive comfortably on a rental aluminum 80 with this size of wing? I know it's a fairly large wing for singles.....so anyone who has single tank experience please share......thanks

I dived for a while with the RecWing/Transpac setup and did find it to be a bit bulky with single tanks. It is a bunjeed wing so you can tighten it up a bit and it's not too bad but I did opt for a smaller wing after some use. All in all it is not a terrible wing for singles but there are more compact alternatives.

I have the Rec Wing and I use it for both singles and doubles, on a Stainless Steel Backplate. When using it with singles, it has a gusseted bungee cord system that keeps the wing from flopping around, and "reduces" the size of the wing. When I'm using it with my double HP 119's, I remove the bungee cord and let it extend to its full size. It works great for me, and I really like it. I've read some posts from folks that knock this wing for singles or doubles use, but they don't make any sense to me. The wing really does work great, it provides plenty of lift, AND can do both singles and doubles.

Another thing... If your friend is looking to dive doubles eventually, I'd say that a better way to go is with a backplate. The transpac is comfy and fine for singles... but the backplate will definitely be the more stable option for both singles AND doubles.

I hope this info helps. :D

I have used one for about 50 dives with single tanks... works great for me. I notice no problems with it, and actually like it much better than the Seaquest Balance I had before it. I would have no problems recommending it to someone that uses singles.

The TransPacII and/or RecWing comes up very frequently. There are a LOT of posts on them; maybe thousands, I haven't counted. Maybe we ought to start a club, like the car clubs for TransPac/RecWing users, eh?

Club motto:

"Your TransPac and RecWing is like a Timex. It takes a beating and keeps on ticking"

Or

"Unlike your ex your TransPac and RecWing will never let you down."
