I've looked around a bit for some info on this but with little success so I'll post my little problem.

So I just got this fabulous Dive Rite al bp with a gorgeous red rec wing with a STA to use with a single 80. I got the rec wing because its got the capability of doubles which I see myself using in the future. On my first dive with it, I found myself rolling left. I'm told air was gathering in the right side of the wing because the inflator hose was pulling the top of the left side of the wing down. The problem fixes itself when I role myself right to get the air to move to the left side of the wing.

We made a few adjustments- moved the wing higher, zip-tied the perimeter of the wing to the backplate and tightened the heck out of the bungee things on the sides of the wing. It's a lot better but not perfect. I'm assuming the wing is doing the taco effect thing around the tank because of its large size compared to the tank but I obviously couldn't see it because I was wearing it.

Has anybody else had this problem? Any more suggestions on stuff to try? We're thinking of somehow bungeeing it down a little more to make it a bit smaller. Any help or ideas would be wonderful.

I used the Dive Rite rec wing with a SS bp/sta. I used it with single tanks (even Al-80's) and never encountered a problem as described. I used it with the bungee on and off. The only time I had to adjust for a "roll" to one side, was when I started to carry a pony and I had to offset that weight difference.

I dived this wing for a couple hundred dives when I first started diving a backplate. What you are experiencing is the inherent characteristic of a wing that's designed as a "compromise" ... in order to accommodate both doubles and singles.

There's nothing wrong with the wing ... it's just not as easy to dive as a dedicated singles wing. Keep diving it ... you will learn the adjustments necessary to dive it proficiently ...

If you get a wing capable of everything it wont be great at anything. Get the right tool for the job. I cant imagine having to make that many adjustments to make a wing work. Its a very simple piece of equipment and should perform well without the really wierd adjustments you describe.

Thanks for the input!

I already bought it so there isn't all that much I can do about it now.

Agree with Bob, I dive that wing and you need to reposition the air sometimes, but it works. The same happens if you ascend a little head down and dumping from the dump valve on the bottom........

Just position your head up a little and roll left to right. You will hear the air change sides.

Never had that issue. SS TransPlate w/ RecWing, using STA do I don't have to re-thread everything when I go doubles. Super stable, love it. Keep at it, I suspect you'll figure out the best way to dive with it.

No problem as described with my RecWing. I don't use a STA (so far) for diving single AL80.
