Dive Rite Rec EXP Wing w/ single tank?

Hello, I have been thinking about getting the dive rite EXP wing as part of my BCD system. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this wing and using it with a single tank? The man at my local dive shop said that it is very annoying to dive with a single tank but it says on their site that it is possible. I was hoping to get a backplate/wing style BCD that is usable for single tanks as well as doubles.

Avoid wings that claim to be usable for both singles and doubles. They won't work very well with either configuration.

I use it for singles all the time. As long as you use the taco tabs, its fine.

It's possible, but a bit of a pain. Too much room for the air to move around in and makes it slightly more difficult to vent.

IF you're going to rig up to do double-tank diving, the additional cost of the larger wing is the least of your concern.

For that much lift, takes a certain amount of air. Although I may try my Voyager wing this weekend instead, and see if it has enough for my drysuit, SS BP and lead for my Gem Rebreather. Will be abit more streamlined, I'm just not sure the Voyager will have enough lift.

I have one of the older rec wings, I think it's too big for my doubles. Using it on a single tank would be terrible. So unless the newer one is WAY smaller (which I doubt) I'd be of the opinion that it would be a horrible single tank wing.

It works Ok for singles as long as you bungy it down really well. In my opinion it is too small for steel doubles Lp 95 and bigger. You might be able to get away with Lp 85's with out stages. If you dive Dry and are willing to use your suit for inflation too it can be used with the Lp 95's but not recommended. As you loose the redundancy of diving dry. As stated above if you are getting into tec a second wing is the least if your expense worries. I started out with the original rec wing but traded it for a Hollis 32 lbs wing and a Dive Rite Classic wing, also got two plates because I got tired of re- rigging for different equations.
When trying to make gear play double duty you end up with a less than optimal rig that does not preform either task great but performs both marginal.
