I dive the TransPlate with the deluxe harness and the REC wing. The REC is a bungeed wing and I use it primarily with singles and have no problems with tacoing. Nor to I have problems venting air because of the bungee.

Probably the DIR and cave guys wouldnt like the delux harness or the bungeed wing and thats ok....what works for them....and I can understand not trusting the release clips if I had 4 or more extra tanks hanging off of me.

But I do primarily rec diving...warm water....and I like the ease and ajustability of the delux harness.

I would go the plate over the TransPac though for doubles. No personal experience there.... but heard and read a lot of complaints that a TransPac isnt very stable or comfy for doubles.

Its all personal taste.

If you are planning to dive doubles, backplates would probably be a better choice over Transpac.

I dive with an aluminum backplate with TransPlate harness. It comes with quick releases buckles.

Tell them to throw in the crotch strap as the package DOES come w/ it!

I purchased the Dive Rite Transpac with integrated weight pockets plus crotch strap because I wanted a reliable, durable, back inflate bc that could be used in various environments...primarily for single tank diving...warm or cold. It can also be transformed into a doubles harness. I like it because of these features and the fact that it provides excellent trim and bouyancy characteristics that a jacket style bc does not have.

I have been looking for a new bc for over a year (currently use a jacket style). Stumbled across your post and thought "THATS IT!" Im not sure how to choose size and wings and all that but is this were I go? http://www.diveriteexpress.com/dive_rite/packages/st2070p.shtml

I think you can do much better than that price given there. I priced out the transpac with all those accessories for just over $500.

Thats the information I need. What sites to go to.

pants!:
Chest straps are worthless underwater.

Not for an instructor! We call them the "Instructor Strap" and use them to keep a student from drifting away when doing skills like regulator removal/recovery or mask removal. That way, when the student spits out the reg when water hits the nose when taking the mask off, we can easily put it back within reach of the flailing hand! ;)
