I made my first dive today on my brand new Dive Rite fins. I have Mares Tri Advantix 3 and Atomic Aquatics split fins. I found that in my dry suit that the other two fins did not fit well. I wear a size 9 rock boot. The Atomics give good propulsion but lack in the frog kick or tight manuevering.
The Dive Rite fins will take some getting used to,as they are a VERY stiff fin as compared to my other two. I found the following to be true today.
1. When using a frog kick the Dive Rite fins were WAY better than the split fins.
2. When finning in a standard kick the Dive Rite fins were somewhat tiring but effective.
3. The Dive Rite fins were much better at tight maneuvering than either of the other 2 fins.
4. The standard spring straps on the Dive Rite fins should be an industry standard on all fins, the ease of putting them on and removing them was amazing.
I paid about $130 for the fins through Dive Rite Express. I ordered a size extra large and as I said previously I wear a size 9. The fins are a little large but not overly so.
I don't think these fins would be my first choice in a wet suit but for a dry suit diver wearing rock boots they seem to work well.
I post this not to stir controversy or to start a thread about which fins are best...in the end it's what works for each person, merely to put the information out there regarding what I found with my new fin purchase.
