Dove the reefs off Riomar in Vero Beach today. First time for us at this area.
we hit the water a little after 7am. Weather was a bit cloudy but the water was dead calm and a enjoyable 79 degrees (slightly cooler than the 81 we had last week).
Visibility was okay for Riomar....10-12 feet. The reef system was impressive and a great beach dive as the reef is 50 feet from the beach. We dropped down about 125 feet out. The reef is fairly shallow with our max depth at 15 feet.
Lots of sealife....including loggerhead turtle and a reef shark (solid 5 footer).
it was an awesome quick morning dive....very enjoyable though we saw no lobsters.
South along the reef the swim back to shore gets tough due to complex and shallow reef structure. I'd advise divers to enter the water just south of the beach access (at the clubhouse flagpole), swim out and then south. Return the same way.
For sure.....we'll dive this again and soon. When viz is good this is a good fast dive.
