With the recent pressure on the wrecks out of o.c., we decided to go north and go "old school". The reports from the 4 boats out of o.c. on sat. and sunday were bad vis and more bad vis. What did we have to lose?
The guys in Wakefield finally got it right and the forecast was as promised, overcast in the morning, lake atlantic and sunny and 2-3 by mid day. We got out the old school book and got a set of hang numbers that have been productive in the past. We got the hook set first try and I was up for the tie in. It looked good at first, but at 20fsw the lights went out and I ran into the wreck at 45 fsw. I ran a reel out for a while and from what I could see it will prove interesting on a better day.
Next stop was the Palmer, an oldy but a goody. Capt. Ray was up for the tie in and all went well. He was back in forty minutes with the alpha males from the wreck and a report of 15-20 for vis. Whooo Hooo! I suited up and splashed. It was a walk down memory wreck. She has broken down more and the pieces seemed to be farther apart than I remembered, but an old freind just the same. I saw the alpha that eluded Capt.Ray but that is why he is so big, he is smart, you only get to see his tail!lol It was a chilly 56 on the bottom and 72 on the hang. Max depth was 77 feet with a run time of 70 minutes.
