Proof that diving is a year round activity in New England! We've had some excellent visibility in the harbor for the last two weekends and hoping this weekend continue that trend provided we don't get any storms. Last weekend on the scallop charter we had ~25ft-30ft of visibility.
Sunday Jan 11th was an excellent day for scalloping although cold doesn't really begin to describe it. You know it's cold when the inner harbor at the marina is partially iced over and sea spray is instantly freezing over everyone's gear.
Dive Report: Max depth 47fsw, Water temp was a bone chilling 35f-36f degrees and air temperature was~ 23f degrees, visibility was an astonishing 25ft-35ft+ of horizontal viz in some spots! In comparison, we typically get 10ft-15ft of good visibility while scalloping in the summer months.
The real winner here was Dave S in a wetsuit who did one 30 minute dive and completely bagged up for scallops. Matt from RI also scored a very nice civil war era bottle find.
Divers aboard the R/V Gauntlet with NADE were diving the wreck of the Romance on Sunday and also reported an astonishing 35-40ft of visibility.
