Went out on the Sundiver Express yesterday. Only 8 divers on board which is common for midweek (great time to get out). Everyone was aboard and signed waivers pretty quickly so we headed out.

Given the amazing conditions during the crossing, it appeared we were going to have a bit of extra time. So the first dive site was the less-often visited little farnsworth. I love this site. Lots of big lobster and a huge sheephead crab. Only 4 of us even did this dive, though.

Then, to our surprise, captain kyaa decided to take us around the back to see what it looked like. Another surprise: glass like surface with incredible visibility below!! You could see the kelp 40 feet below the surface easily. I'd say the horizontal visibility was at least 30+ ft. So we did two dives on the back side of the island at a couple different sites (don't recall names).

We head around front thinking we're heading home after a delicious korean bbq pork lunch (thanks chris marcos). But wait, there's more!! That crazy captain realized we were ahead of schedule and stops for one more dive! I think it was called K20 but not sure.

So, flat surface conditions, sun and great visibility all day. Gotta say, yesterday did not suck! Thanks again to the Sundiver Express crew. Gotta love an operation that doesn't mind spending a little extra gas for the best diving rather than the same old sites that are closest to them.

Awesome. Little Farnsworth and some backside action on what normally would have been your run of the mill frontside charter. Who could ask for more?

Did you spot any interesting critters on the backside which you haven't or don't normally see on the frontside?

Frank....there were LOTS of dead squid all over the place on the front side. There were still a few mating and LOTS of egg sacs. The large sheephead was cool for me since I hadn't seen one in a long time. However, the capper was on my 100th dive I saw my first torpedo ray. Apparently it was a large one, too. The photographer I was with fanned at it (no touching) and it flew up and back, then froze in a horizontal position and just slowly sank back down. VERY cool to see.

Congrats on your 100th dive....love those mid week dives on the Express...wish I could get out more often.

Wish I could have gone with you guys. Congrats on the 100th. Look forward to our dive on the 14th. The rest of my gear should be in by then, I hope. not sure if its set right and hope to be using my new computer. I'll bring a good book and my ipod just in case lol.
