I wanted to post a trip report from 7/3 with Cape Ann divers. I went with my son/dive buddy on a lobster trip. We had 9 other hunters on Board. Capt Steve and company did a stellar job as usual. We had planned on going north, but it was rough and rolling so we went to plan B. We went south to Never Fail Ledge and for the second dive one of Capt Steve's favorites (I think he said Picket's ledge). The temp on the surface was about 55 and at about 60 ft 48 degrees. Never Fail was a little stirred up, but we got 1 lobster - lots of just undersized - see you next year! For the second dive we went to the Picket's ledge ( I think). What a beautiful location. It is pink granite going up to about 25 ft and canyons going to about 50 ft. They are steep and narrow. There were lots of starfish - the first feature we saw. The vis was about 25 ft or perhaps more - if I had a camera, I would have been just as happy. There were bugs to be had, and one of our hunters also got about 10 flounder with a homemade trident.
I know that the dive operators have been hurting but it was nice to see full boats - in fact on Friday, they actually took out two boats. I would love to go back to the second ledge again - this time with my camera! Thanks again, Cape Ann Divers and Capt Steve.
