What a day on the water. NOAA’s prediction of 1-2 feet was a bit off as the seas were more like 0-1.5, but we’ll let that slide. As we made our way out of the pass the rumors of the pass being boomed seemed to be exaggerated as we saw no evidence that the pass was or would be closed, but it weighed heavily on our minds the entire afternoon.

We made our way East to the Brass Wreck and on our way we passed several boats skimming and even drove through a couple of smaller patches of oil, but we pressed on toward what we felt would be cleaner waters further east, and we were right! As we got passed the last skimmer boats the water was clean and clear. We did our first dives on the Brass Wreck and shot a couple of nice fish and got the attention of the very big local man in the grey suit, who paid us a quick visit to just investigate the situation. Viz was about 30 feet and the temp was about 68* on the bottom and over 80* on the surface, with the thermocline being at about 30 feet.

Next we went to a couple of private numbers, while we got positioned over our first set of private numbers a real nice Cobia paid us a visit. Unfortunately for him we had our guns ready to go and it wasn’t long until he was in our cooler. We also shot some real nice snapper and triggers, Kudos to Recharge who shot some of the biggest trigger fish I’ve seen.

After loading the boat with some nice fish at our private #'s, and the sun dropping fast, we decided to stop and hit the Tex Edwards on the way back to the pass, but as we approached the Tex Edwards it was apparent that not only were they skimming over the top of it, but that we were going through some fairly significant oil slicks so we opted to go to the Oops barge instead where Grouper321 put a nice Grouper in the boat. Over all it was an awesome day on the water even though we missed our buddy Hetland as he found himself land locked for the weekend.

Well I WILL HAVE TO SAY THAT MR X-RAY GOT TOP GUN AGAIN THIS WEEK.OVER ALL HE HAD THE BIGGEST SNAPPER , I HAD THE BIGGEST TIGGER FISH, GROUPER 321 HAD THE BIGGEST GROUPER.THE SEAS WERE NICE,THE SUN WAS HOT,WE HAD TO DODGE THE OIL, HETLAND WAS MISSING, BUT WE DID HAVE A GREAT DAY.

Fish porn! Thanks for the report

I hate that I missed it guys. It looks like you were all very successful.

I'm thinking Larry might have to be the king of triggerfish. I don't think I've ever seen any that big around here, and he certainly has been finding the big ones on our last few trips.

My answer to Hetland, Somebody has to keep Mr-xray in check,He keeps killing all the big snapper,so I kill big fish of a different species to try and keep him in check.Sure wish you would come and help put the pressure on him.
