Today, Earl, Ed and I headed out to dive both casualties of the Battle of Point Judith: the U-853 and the stern section of the Blackpoint.

For the first dive on the U-853 I did a penetration (Earl and Ed both stayed outside). This was my first time doing a penetration dive on the sub, although it was my 6th dive on the wreck. I dropped down into the forward blasthole and headed aft into the control room. Then doubled back forward all the way up to the forward torpedo room. Then went back aft to the blast hole and made my exit. I still had a bit of bottom time left so I swam all the way back to the stern and then back to the conning tower where I made my ascent up the mooring.

Dive 2 was the Blackpoint stern section, which conveniently had a nice mooring buoy.

Sadly, the day was not without casualties.....Earl's hat (RIP ?-2007) was blown off his head and lost at sea while en-route to the Blackpoint. I have attached a photo which shows Earl's hat just hours before its untimely demise! Plus a sea anemone from the Blackpoint for kicks! :D

We had a great day out in the ocean....well Chris said it better. Although conditions were not so great it was a pleasent dive.

Congratulations to Chris I guess love can do it all.....I dunno how many times I ask him to do penetrations....he never wanted to. Even the Chester Polling...any way love is a strong potion.

I guess the Blackpoint stern has collapsed or is deep on the sand. Maybe I did not see the whole wreck.....we all did solo dives pretty much.

well enjoy the pics....ED

I and a couple guys from Scubaboard were on Canned Air there on Thursday and Capt Gordon had a buoy placed on the Blackpoint. Talk about flat seas and no current. Looking forward to tech classes for more bottom time on those two dives. Glad to hear conditions were great for you too.

I can tell you we actually let out cheers when we saw that brand new buoy floating on the numbers and realized we didn't have to hook the wreck. :D

Our seas weren't as flat, although not bad by any means, but the "no current" part held. Was starting to feel a bit like fall out on the water though, I was glad to be in my drysuit this weekend.

Sounds like I missed a great day of diving yet again :(

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I am dry the next two weekends because a siren lured me up on the rocks.... metaphorically speaking... :D

Nice! How is that supposed to make me feel better again?

It is the old "Hahaha! He can't go diving because he has to go out with some cute, funny and smart blonde! I wouldn't want to be that loser!!!" thing.

Hmm..... okay nevermind...... :D

Is this the Doctor that you were going out with after our last dive?
