We start this report with the Red Neck Riviera Spearfishing Tournament June 6-7, 2008 at Tacky Jack's.
The wind started blowing on Wednesday before the tournament and we didn't think we were going to get it in.
A few boats braved the conditions on Friday and My hat's off to those. Saturday the weather broke to spite what the forecast was calling for and I think most boats got out.
Report from the Cat-N-Around:
Sat. 6/7 Spearfishing for the tournament seas were 3-5 foot but diveable. We hit about 12 different spots mostly pyramids and tanks starting around 18 miles out of Perdido Pass, vis started out at a good 60 foot and temp 75-77* and stayed at about that throughout the day until we got within 8 miles of shore then the vis dropped to 10 foot and the temp was a cold 70*. We did OK on fish but nothing of enough size to place in the tourney.
Monday and Tuesday we had two different groups that wanted to stay shallow so we did the Three Coal Barges and The Massachusetts. Vis on the three coal barges was a good 30 foot and the Mass. vis was close to the same at about 25'. The 6 divers each day had a Great time and 2 good dives and said they would be back to go out on more advanced dives in the future.
Thursday we had 5 divers and went out to the Navy Tug and Ivan's Reef. The Tug was a awesome dive with vis. reported at 80' + with water temp at 77* at depth and lots of marine life. One diver went to the O the next day and said the vis was better on the tug.
Ivan's Reef vis reported to be 50' and also a great dive with tons of life. This site is undiscovered by most divers and (at this time) has no traffic on it.
